Autumn Skin Tips

Get Your Skin-Glowing for Autumn

Get Your Skin Glowing This Autumn.

As soon as the weather starts to change and the heating gets turned on. Our skin starts to feel dryer and lacking in lustre. This can be due to our skin leaking water, from an impaired barrier function (the skins protective top layer). We probably have not long got back from holiday where we’ve been in extreme heat, then we’ve come home, the temperature has dropped and the heating has gone on. This fluctuation will cause barrier function to become impaired and tiny gaps appear causing water to escape and pollution, dust and irritants to get in where they shouldn’t. The result an unhappy dry skin, so what can you do to get your skin glowing?

Up The Hydration.

This is simple I here you say, all I need to do is drink more water! Not necessarily, although drinking plenty of water is a must for your skin health. It’s not guaranteed to give your skin that hydrated glow your after if you’ve got an impaired barrier, because as soon as your drinking it your loosing through the skins surface. So how do we up our skins hydration?

The first step is healing barrier function to stop water loss. This can be done  through correct and effective skincare, supplements and treatments. Try finding good quality products that contain hyaluronic acid, vitamin B3, Vitamin A and Vitamin E. Try taking supplements containing  omegas 3 and 6. If using a facial wash try switching to a cream based cleanser and although tempting don’t automatically switch to very rich emollient based creams as this could cause further problems down the line. It’s always best to seek some professional guidance when choosing the correct skincare. You wouldn’t ask someone in the supermarket/ boots to help you choose the best solution for a medical concern. So what makes you think they know what’s best for your skin!

Once our barrier is healthy and strong we need to keep it that way and one of the best ingredients to do that is Hyaluronic acid.

What Is Hyaluronic Acid, that sounds harsh?

When we hear the word acid we think of a chemistry lab and burning the skin. Well not all acids are harsh and damaging, some like hyaluronic acid are good for the skin. In fact the skin produces hyaluronic acid and is in your skins lipids (your skins natural moisturiser). What could be more natural to your skin than something in it already. Why is it soooo good? Well you know we wanted to stop the skin loosing water, Hyaluronic acid holds 1000x its own weight in water and keeps it in the skin. It also plumps the skin and gets rid of those pesky little lines and wrinkles.

Get Your Skin Glowing with resurfacing.

When I say resurfacing I don’t mean microdermabrasion, Dermaplaning or harsh peels. I mean carefully selected and blended acids in controlled chemical resurfacing to strengthen skin and heal it’s barrier. This is why I choose to use pH formula Skin Resurfacing in clinic with it’s PH – DVC delivery system, it keeps the top layer of the skin in tact. While travelling where it needs to work within the skin. With my bespoke approach all skin’s and conditions can be treated effectively.
