Do Skin Tightening Treatments Really Work?

I’ve been asked about skin tightening treatments so often since we came out of lockdown – What are they? How do they work? And most often – Can a treatment really tighten my skin?

I think we’ve spent so long on screens over the last 18 months, on Zoom, Teams calls and FaceTime, that we’ve spent a lot longer looking at our own faces! The people I’m speaking to are feeling like they are ageing more quickly. They are noticing that their skin looks older, and it’s starting to sag, especially around the jawline and jowl area.

So, I’ve been working on many different treatments to help people to lift and tone their skin, and those areas in particular.

So……do Skin Tightening Treatments Really Work?!

The answer is yes – they absolutely can work.

But different people need different treatments. And each person’s skin responds to treatments in different ways. That’s why all my treatment plans are bespoke – there is no ‘one size fits all if you want to see real results.

One of the things I suggest is a combination of different skin tightening treatments. This is because each method works on different layers of skin. This is how we achieve the very best results.

I will often start with HIFU because this works on the deepest layer of your skin. That’s what some people refer to this being the best Skin Tightening Treatments around!

HIFU stands for High-Intensity Frequency Ultrasound. This is one of the best ways to lift the skin in just one treatment. It works by creating a thermal injury deep within the skin, which causes the skin to start repairing itself. When it repairs it creates more collagen and elastin. Because it’s happening so deep in the skin, you can’t see anything straight away, but slowly over 3 months, your skin will start to lift and tighten. To find out more about HIFU click here

This works similarly to HIFU, but not quite as deep. It works on a layer of your skin nearer to the surface. Radiofrequency causes a thermal injury more superficially but still encourages your skin to create more collagen and elastin. To find out more about this treatment click here.

If you have fine lines, I might suggest a little microneedling. This treatment causes a micro-injury with tiny, fine needles. But don’t worry – it’s a very controlled injury. With my microneedling you don’t get any excessive bleeding – that’s certainly NOT the way to achieve results. If too much bleeding occurs, you’re causing too much injury to the skin, which won’t achieve the results you’re looking for. To find out more about Microneedling click here.

Skincare products

I will recommend the right skincare products to use for your skin, which will work well with the treatments you’re having.

Your skincare products should be used daily. They start to work to activate the fibroblast cells, to produce more collagen and elastin naturally. These two proteins are necessary for skin health because they offer support and elasticity.

In summary, skin tightening treatments can work. But as you see, I recommend a multi-faceted solution, tailored to your own skin. There is no quick fix – it’s usually a process that can take between 3 and 6 months to reach your desired look. But if you don’t want to go down the surgery route, you just need to be prepared to put in a bit of time, effort, and investment.

I’d love to chat with you and understand more about your skin and what you’d like to achieve. Book in for a consultation and we’ll have a good look at your skin and put a plan together. I hope to see you soon!
