The definitive guide to menopausal bride skincare

The definitive guide to bridal skincare, for the older or menopausal bride

If you’re an older menopausal bride, getting ready for your special day can feel challenging as it can be difficult for you to achieve that perfect bridal glow. You will be experiencing a loss of collagen, and dryness and menopause can take their toll on your overall complexion.

That’s why it’s important to be proactive and act early to seek out results-driven treatments which will get you looking, and feeling, a million dollars for the big day!

How long before my wedding should I start having treatments?

As you age, your skin renewal slows down and it could take 40 to 50 days to produce your new skin cells. It can also take three of these renewal cycles, whilst carrying out your new routine and having your treatment, to have a significant impact on those new cells growing.

That’s why ideally, you need to start changing your skincare and having treatments about six months before your wedding day.

Which menopausal bride treatments are best for skin tightening and skin lifting?

My clients have seen amazing results with different treatments, and some of them are used in combination. Here’s a quick run-through of the best treatments for tightening and lifting:

  1. HIFU

HIFU is the next best thing to a facelift.

It works on the deep dermal layers of the skin, helping to tighten and lift. It’s great around the jowl area, you usually only need one treatment and it takes up to three months to see the results.

  1. Radiofrequency

Radiofrequency is another skin-tightening treatment. You usually need about six treatments to see an effect. This would mean coming into the clinic weekly for appointments. This works similarly to HIFU, but further up the layers of the skin. It heats the dermal layers, creating a thermal disruption and making the skin create more collagen.

  1. CACI

CACI works on the muscles within the skin. It helps to re-educate the muscles and lift them to where they used to be.

Combining CACI with radiofrequency works really and makes a great treatment plan in the run-up to your wedding day.

  1. Microneedling

Microneedling is also known as Collagen Induction Therapy. This is great for building more collagen, great for the complexion when used with mesotherapy treatments and the perfect treatment for your lines and wrinkles.

  1. pHformula Skin Resurfacing

pHformula Skin Resurfacing is a great way to achieve a bright complexion.

It also helps with ageing skin – to build more collagen, fight lines and wrinkles and correct age spots or discolouration of the skin.

  1. Skincare

Skincare at home is really important. It’s all very well having treatments in the clinic, but if you’re not doing the hard work at home, then you will only see minimal benefits. Ditch the supermarket brands (including Boots) and start looking at a more professional, results-driven brand with medical-grade ingredients. These will help work within the skin to encourage skin cells to grow more healthily and help the skin to renew itself at a quicker rate.

Which ingredients and supplements will help a menopausal bride?

Vitamin A – is a great ingredient for older skin.

Hyaluronic Acid – especially useful if you’re menopausal and suffering from skin dryness.

Skin supplements – I’m a great advocate of skin supplements. I believe that great skin starts from within. Look out for collagen supplements, or supplements with hyaluronic acid that are going to help to hydrate you.

If you are suffering from rosacea, which is quite common during menopause, look for supplements that help to calm and take the redness out of the skin.
